“When did I become an object of pity?” – Nick Cave, after the death of his son Arthur
President Trump and most of his administration has returned from an undoubtedly grueling overseas trip to the Middle East and Europe. For the most part it seemed that the trip went OK though there were a few pained moments. Met my expectations; no wars were started and everyone arrived back home safely. Back at home “Russiagate” raged on.
He was then greeted at home with a gruesome effigy by Kathy Griffin, which Melania says traumatized young Barron. Well, duh. No child should have to deal with that and shame on Ms. Griffin for putting him through that. Barron. Donald is a grown man, ostensibly in possession of a few pairs of really expensive big boy pants. I expect that Griffin will be getting a visit from the Secret Service momentarily. She should have plenty of time to meet with them with her job loss and all. Perhaps she should contact Ted Nugent for pointers on beating the rap. (Hint: pretend you didn’t mean it.)
I think though that I have reached peak negative Trump covefefe and it is beginning to invoke my “kicked puppy” response whereby I must feel pity for him after enduring unabated abuse. It is an automatic reaction and anyone or thing will get it even if they did it to themselves and categorically do not deserve it. I believe the reports of Trump’s job dissatisfaction and I believe that he would like to get back to his old life. I do not blame him; it was a good life and I never did understand why he would subject himself to the non-stop criticism of being the President. Hang in there Donnie, we don’t need to be subjected to Mike Pence just yet.
So many songs to choose from here.
We Gotta Get Outta this Place – Songs from the Middle East and Europe or about traveling in general. I love traveling and I love coming home. Unless, of course I left the house in a frenzy and come home to the shithole I left behind when I embarked on my adventure.
The Mercy Seat – Songs about real or fake repentance or excess criticism. Let’s face it, most people “mean it” when they do stupid shit and only apologize when the get caught or get flack. I believe in repentance though and I generally leave the judging to a higher power. That way maybe I will get some of that sweet, sweet forgiveness as needed.
Suffer the Children – songs about treating children badly. I am normally not a fan of shielding children from everything but on this one I am going to do it. Children of Presidents suffer in the White House. Let’s think about them on occasion. They aren’t there by their own actions.
Here are your dedications:
Thrill – Parts of Russia are in Europe. And well, Russia. You get my favorite symphony ever.
Zurvan – French pop from the 60’s. I am still learning your music style and this should at least be eclectic enough.
spootyjim – Southern rock tune about the loneliness of endless traveling. They used to play local dives in Atlanta in the early 80’s. Great shows.
westvirginiarebel – A classic atonement song and category title.
Grendel – Some Ozzy for you.
santino – From my favorite Tears for Fears album and another category title. I had never heard of them until my ex played this for me in the mid 80’s.
For a dedication next week play us a song.
We Gotta Get Outta This Place: Funny you mention coming home to a shithole. When I was single and used to travel for business, I always cleaned my apartment the day before leaving because everything felt wrong when I came home to find it trashed. Mrs Thrill gets this and makes it a point to have the house looking nice whenever I return from trips. Another one of my travel traditions is that I unpack and put everything away like, immediately, upon returning. I just want to get back to being mentally “at home” as fast as possible. Anyway. Best… Read more »
I’m glad this isn’t a ‘family friendly’ website, since I’d NEVER be able to post this link for ‘Suffer the Children.’
Lindemann – Praise Abort
Fair warning – that song/video isn’t safe for anyone, anywhere, any time.
Oooh, that should have been the category header. Missed opportunity.
I’ve given warnings on occasion but this is basically a safe zone when it comes to music. Song has a Rammstein feel to it and of course, I love Rammstein!
I think I’m largely in line with the theme, at least with song titles.
Some European bands.

Pink Floyd – Another Brick in the Wall – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR5ApYxkU-U
MGMT – Kids – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe4EK4HSPkI
Zurvan – French pop from the 60’s. Wow. Pink Panther vibe. I am still learning your music style and this should at least be eclectic enough. I like it. I’m all over the map when it comes to music…don’t like too much rap, country, Death metal, or R&B, but I’m game to try just about anything. We Gotta Get Outta this Place As I mentioned before, I travel a lot for work. When I’m headed home, there are two songs I find myself listening to. Coming Home from P Diddly, or whatever he’s calling himself these days. And PTX –… Read more »

Yea, so Kathy seems to be changing her tune and it’s getting more and more absurd. Back on the Mercy Seat for an Elton John twofer:

Seriously, how stupid is Kathy Griffin? She was never all that funny.
Speaking of women getting heat for criticizing presidents, incurring public wrath, and ruining their own careers…
Not Ready to Make Nice by the Dixie Chicks
This one’s about someone who doesn’t deserve any pity:
Delia’s Gone
Institutional child abuse:
How can you say what my best interest is? What are you trying to say, I’m crazy?
When I went to YOUR schools, I went to YOUR churches,
I went to YOUR institutional learning facilities?! So how can you say I’m crazy?

Since it’s the side project for the lead singer of Rammstein I’m not surprised by the similarities 😀
While I don’t usually give warnings on stuff, I also didn’t want to open a can of worms given the subject matter. It’s pretty mild compared to Cannibal Corpse or Dying Fetus, but the fact that the lyrics are understandable gives them more impact.
