What if there was an open thread and I had no commentary on anything? Well, here it is. I have to confess that I haven’t been following the news at all this week. My time has been poorly spent obsessively playing Pirates of Everseas for the past couple of weeks. It’s fun.
Periodically, I feel like my “cup” is empty and I don’t have anything left to pour out. What I try to do when it becomes tiresome to follow current events and difficult to write about them is detach…just a bit…and try to refill the cup by stepping away from the big stupid things and focusing on small stupid things. Such as the Venture Brothers season premiere tonight. They got Mark Hamill! YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
Back on topic. It’s not the same thing as burnout. I do it to avoid burnout. It’s a good thing and I’m sure I’m not the only one who does it. I mean, you guys come and go all of the time in the comments sections. We’ll go through a couple of weeks at a time where there’s a fantastic fight every other day and then it goes quiet for a few days.
My suspicion is that everybody needs to get away from it now and then. Again, I think it’s good and necessary for our emotional well-being. Especially with how angry and fast-paced politics are these days.
Anyway, don’t fret about the recent light posting on my part. Believe me, it’s better for everyone when I’m not treating RVS like a job. The cup will be refilled soon enough. With what, I don’t know.
What about you guys? Do you detach from the news cycle on a regular basis? I hope you do. What distracts you to help you stay centered and what pulls you back into it?
Let’s take some time to appreciate the slowness as the summer winds down. With the midterm elections coming up in the US, it’s not going to last, you know.
