I had a fantastic Halloween night, as usual. Carved jack o’ lanterns in the classic style, took the kids on a 2 hour 2.5 mile Candy Death March, and got drunk on pumpkin ale while watching horror movies until it was time to pass out.
This year’s films were Monster Squad, Serial Rabbit V: The Epic Hunt (please don’t ask), and Friday the 13th VII. I kept the standard deal I make with the kids: if you stay up with me and watch two of the three movies, you can skip school the next day. They took the deal, because it’s awesome.
I was a bit surprised about Monster Squad though. It hasn’t held up well. Can you imagine a movie, which is basically for kids, that includes a bully repeatedly calling someone a “faggot” and a main character who smokes cigarettes and an adult actor calling a five year old girl a “bitch” coming out nowadays? I cannot. The 80’s were magical and utterly screwed up, let’s face it.
Instead of hating November 1st, arguably the shittiest day of the year because it marks the beginning of the Christmas holiday season and is the furthest day from next Halloween, I channeled my positive energy and…picked up the house a bit after the night’s festivities. That’s about it. I’m on vacation.
Let’s just share music this week. How about these categories?
- Murder – Watched plenty of movies with lots of killin’. Got any music on the subject?
The Walking Dead – It pisses my kids off to no end that I refuse to use the car during trick or treating. One day, they will understand that no candy on Earth is sweeter than that which you work your ass off for. Songs about earning what’s yours or even just walking apply here.
November 1st – Find any song you love. The best and most enjoyable music you can imagine that you love with all of your heart. Got it? Okay, I want you to share the song that immediately follows it on the album it’s on. This is the very essence of November 1st for me.
If you haven’t noticed, there’s a strong theme of “letdown day” in this post so…no dedications. Feel my pain.
