What comes after election season? Recount and runoff season, where losing candidates consume some powerful hallucinogen that causes them to forget all that they ever knew about math and demand a do-over. If you have ever watched an analyst cover a tight race on election night, the math starts looking real grim at 99% of precincts reporting. At 100% reporting, the odds are almost non-existent. This is because of the number of votes needed to make up the deficit are astronomical because the the slim margin. Poring through a pile of absentee ballots in the hope that you will find your few remaining voters is noble, but usually fruitless because they are evenly distributed throughout the district and not concentrated in your favored precincts.
Three races in Georgia, two of which I voted in (GA-6 and Governor), are still being contested. Only one, GA-7 at a ~900 vote deficit, has any real shot at finding sufficient votes and even that is a stretch. In my district of GA-6 there is a ~3000 vote deficit and for Governor, there is a 70,000 deficit and is not even within the margin to trigger a runoff. I predict that none of these change and that the results will be largely what they are today.
I support any candidate that is entitled to a recount or runoff to receive it per the laws and regulations of the state. They are not sour grapes or assholes. I just don’t see much use for them in the days when almost all votes are transmitted electronically. Unless we are talking about a mere dozens or hundreds deficit or an all manual ballot race, manually re-counted ballots will ultimately not make a difference. None of the races in GA apply.

*** ETA: Ok, this post was a moving target. Karen Handel has conceded GA-6 to Lucy McBath. Brian Kemp’s lead over Stacey Abrams is reduced to 63000, but Abrams is still over 25,000 short of forcing a runoff. Kemp has declared himself the winner, but votes are still being counted. It should still fall short of a runoff, IMHO. No one is talking about GA-7 and I am too
lazy busy to look it up.
