We have a rarity this week: two DJ posts in a row!  It was a busy weekend, so I didn’t get an open thread in.  Wouldn’t have mattered anyway.  Main topic would’ve been about the election and there’s still a spirited debate in progress on that topic.

So that’s how I’ll justify my neglect of your RVS needs this week.  I didn’t want back-to-back open thread topics, so we’ll do back-to-back music.  Why not?  It’s not like you have a choice anyway, with both me and pfluffy drowning in mid-Fall melancholia.

All that said, here’s what I’m looking for this week.

  1. Segue Tunes: Those songs that turn into other songs.  Like they’re two different songs, but when you listen to them on an album they run together.  I have a couple of examples in mind in the dedications.
  2. Sequel Tunes: Companion songs that are either parts 1 and 2 or whatever.
  3. Double albums:  Best song from each from any artist.
  4. Back in Black: If you can’t think of any on this theme, just play some AC/DC.

Dedications for the week.  It’s all in the above YouTube playlist.

Santino: Parabol/Parabola by Tool

pfluffy: Need You Tonight/Mediate by INXS

Delurked: Don’t Cry and Don’t Cry by Guns N’ Roses

WVR: Brain Stew/Jaded by Green Day

A #4 – A few weeks ago, randomly about the time my son… Read more »

The seventies were filled with these, made for good radio filler on FM:

And of course:

Also, for Jim Acosta, who got his pass back (at least for now):

I call your Tool #1 and raise you a Tool #2:

Message to Harry Manback by Tool – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-_8qZW1CBA
Message to Harry Manback II by Tool – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8Xgoks0VQo

In keeping with my “songs that feature answering machines”, here’s a **TRIPLE** #1 by Local H:

Hit the Skids or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Rock by Local H – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDq_BXWQiGE
500,000 Scovilles by Local H – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9v1b1JRJoa0
What Can I Tell You by Local H – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x43AoHAYE8k

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds did a double album Abbatoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus. Abbatoir Blues was the better album, but I always loved the title track to LoO. Lyre of Orpheus – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zLcaS76OtM Cannibal’s Hymn – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lifrd-gagcA He also had a couple of companion songs. I have probably played these before, I really like them. They bookend his album Let Love In. Do You Love Me Pt.1 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1y5o2aFEco Do you Love Me Pt. 2 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH9qPvpElvg He was wrote a whole album of songs about PJ Harvey when she dumped him. His wife looks just like her. Black… Read more »

2. “Fear” — Rush

The Enemy Within (Part I of Fear)

Witch Hunt (Part III of Fear)

Frankly, I’m not too wild about Part II (The Weapon) so I’m not posting it.
