Is it safe to say that the Mueller investigation is imminently ending? Perhaps.
Sure, let’s have an attempt by the elites in the central government to take down an accused tyrant climax during the Ides of March. I like stuff that’s familiar. History is fun when it rhymes. I’d agree with the inference that the conclusion is coming in the middle of this
The timing may be up in the air, but I think the conclusion is predictable. The Senate has already declared “no Russia collusion”. The House is preparing new investigations because they
That’s assuming that we even see the Mueller report, or that there even is one. If there is, I’m sure the debate will immediately center on fully releasing it, unredacted. Trump won’t want to on the grounds that it will include information about Americans who were investigated but not charged with a crime and their privacy and reputation will have to be protected. Democrats will insist that Trump is hiding something. And so it goes.
Not that I’m criticizing the Democrats’ effort to build a case for impeaching Trump even when they don’t know of a single actual crime that he’s committed. Come on though. I mean they’re looking for a crime committed by a man who the longest-serving FBI Director since Hoover just conducted an intense two-year investigation of and came up with nothing. What do you think Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez is going to help find in the course of this grand inquisition with her superb fact-finding skills?
I rest my case. Besides, she has her own problems.
The reason why I don’t really fault the Democrats is that they run one chamber of Congress and Congress can endlessly investigate anybody if it wants to. Add to this that the Democrats only run one chamber of Congress because they promised their deranged voters that they would do exactly this and it’s hard to see what alternative they have. Unlike Comey’s FBI in 2016, there’s nothing unusual or even inherently wrong with Congress carrying out politically-charged and subjective investigations endlessly where it suits the
Let’s face it: if it’s a given that a dog can lick his own balls and really wants to, he’s going to take as much time as he feels and be as thorough as he needs at licking them.
Can the Democrats find something to impeach Trump over? Absolutely. I think I’ve mentioned before that one of the articles of impeachment against Andrew Johnson was that he disrespected Congress in a speech. Trump has certainly done that and more. There’s no limit to what the dog can lick off its balls or what Democrats can think of to bring impeachment if that’s what they want to do.
If they do impeach Trump, there’s still no chance the Senate removes him from office. Republican voters will be energized heading into 2020, as they still have high support for Trump and know that the effort to impeach was residual Dem sore-loserness from 2016.
Independent swing voters will also likely be disgusted with it, as they will see Democrats waste an entire year just to bring their doomed effort at impeachment to a vote and further inflame partisan tension. I don’t claim to understand these voters, but I think they’ll see this as hurting the country. Is destroying Trump worth the cost? I doubt they believe it is. Bill Clinton survived a politically-motivated impeachment with high approval ratings from
Of course, if the House Democrats don’t impeach Trump, their own base abandons them in 2020. It may do so anyway as the party continues to break between the Oblivious Moderate and Ignorant Insane factions.
I’m not sure what the end game is for Democrats or if they even have one. There’s a sense of desperation in it, truthfully. They put all their hopes into the Mueller basket of dreams and have been praising his work all along. Now it has come to nothing and it may get even worse for the Democrats.
Honestly, I can’t see why Trump shouldn’t just go on the attack once the Mueller investigation “clears” him of any wrongdoing. I use quotes because you know everyone is also going to bitterly disagree over whether or not Mueller’s failure to charge Trump or anyone connected to his campaign with real Russia collusion is really clearing him or whatever. But no, if I were Trump I would turn the DOJ loose on absolutely everybody related to Spygate, Clinton’s emails, FBI leaks, the Steele Dossier, and everything imaginable.
Prosecute Strzok, Steele, Comey, McCabe, Hillary Clinton herself, and anyone else for anything and everything. My attitude is that the Mueller investigation was brought about through a coup attempt against Trump and it failed. And when a coup backfires….well, just ask Brutus and Cassius how that worked out for them while we’re making Ides of March references.
Not only did the Democrats support a fully politicized investigation against the president,
I hope he does. Let’s see what happens when Trump uses his own weaponized DOJ in the same manner the Obama Administration did against him. It would be worth it just to force the political Left to firmly denounce the use of neverending, abusive investigations for political ends once and for all.
