This week there was a plethora of news reports of Donald Trump’s declining cognitive abilities. The weirdest was “windmill cancer”, the idea that being around windmills causes cancer. The other concerning report was that he seems to have forgotten where his parents were born. I am not qualified to diagnose anything so I am just commenting here to express on a Friday of a pretty bad week that I feel badly that someone might be declining mentally. I am serious, I do not like Donald Trump, but I have empathy for him and his family.
I still reserve the right to be mortified in any other way regarding his policies or behavior. Mitch McConnell talked him down from an ACA overturn because he had no way to replace it. Rarely do I appreciate anything ol’ Mitch does. I have relatives that depend on the ACA and I would very much like to see them continue to get health insurance. Trump also backed down on the asinine idea to close the Mexican border. I don’t know who was responsible for that reversal, but thank you.
Oh, and I didn’t need the Mueller Report to make up my mind on DJT. I am reserving any comments on it until the full report is released, but I probably won’t say much either way.
Does anyone really care about Joe Biden rubbing some shoulders? I mean really give a shit, not just politics. After all of the Trump and Kavanaugh allegations not so much as getting a burp from Republicans, I am not inclined to give it much thought. Democrats’ tendency to eat their own while giving a pass to the right is one of the reasons I don’t call myself one. There was a time not too long ago that hugging and back-patting were pretty standard (but ass-patting crossed the line). I have spent my life being felt up, groped and propositioned, and shoulder-rubbing and hugging never bothered me. I tend to be a hugger myself, but it pays to kind of signal that it is coming. This might be what Joe is missing.
I am enjoying AOC, even as I realize that some of her ideas need work. When you get older, young people with energy and naivety and brightness have a great deal of appeal. Old people tend to scowl too much. Time will tell if she sticks around or if she makes the same mistakes as some of her predecessors like Cynthia McKinney and Anthony Wiener.
We may or may not get some idea of what is going on with our son next week. I don’t ordinarily request prayers, but if you don’t mind sparing a moment …
- Getting Help – Nothing improves until a person recognizes that there is a problem. Play songs about getting help about a problem.
- Empathy – I am very empathetic to anyone experiencing or having a loved one experiencing mental illness. It can be an excruciating, soul crushing experience. Play songs about empathy and giving a damn.
- Physical Contact – You know what it means.
